NC SPA Meetings
We have two meetings each year. The first is in January at the Turfgrass Council
of NC Turf Expo and trade show in Winston-Salem and the second is in May in association
with the NC State Field Day August 10, 2011 in Raleigh.
The Winston-Salem meeting consists of morning and afternoon educational sessions
on subjects specific to producing turfgrass sod. We also have our annual business
meeting and luncheon. And finally, we end the day with our annual "gathering
of friends" event where our members and suppliers gather in an informal setting
over hors d’oeuvres and drinks to catch up on sod talk.
Marketing
We market our industry to targeted groups such as the North Carolina's home builders
and landscape contractors, as well as the consumer, to promote the benefits of using
turfgrass sod. We do this through a direct mail campaign as well as advertising
in trade publications.
Recently, NCSPA with the help of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture &
Consumer Services, developed and conducted a statewide media campaign to increase
sales and consumer awareness of the availability, varieties, and benefits of North
Carolina grown turfgrass sod. This media campaign consisted of statewide cable television
advertising, newspaper ads, print ads in various home and garden publications, and
production of media kits to be mailed to publication editors across the state.

Fundraising
We donate a portion of the proceeds from our "Gathering of Friends" event
each January to the North Carolina Turfgrass Foundation which provides funding for
research projects that benefit North Carolina’s turfgrass industry.
